Next August’s Jack Up The Summer is already looking set to be one of the best yet with the thrilling news that one of the most distinctive voices in music Heather Small will be headlining the Sunday of the fun-filled retro festival. The much loved family-friendly event returns next year as always in its usual slot on the second weekend in August, 7-9th 2020.
Having sold several million records, winning two Brit Awards and the Mercury Music Prize, Heather Small is one of the country’s most successful female recording artists. Her career began in the late eighties when she featured on the re-recorded version of UK number 1 single ‘Ride on Time’ by Black Box which was the highest-selling single of 1989.
She then shot to fame in the late 1990s as the lead singer of dance outfit M People, known throughout the world for hits including ‘Moving On Up’, ‘One Night In Heaven’ and ‘Search For The Hero.’ Albums like Elegant Slumming, Bizarre Fruit and Fresco achieved massive global success,
with the band winning the Best British Dance Act Award at the Brits in 1994 and 1995.
Heather fast became one of the most influential artists of the 90s and beyond and her rich and distinctive voice has earned her the reputation of being one of Britain’s most accomplished soul divas. She has since had great successes with two solo albums – the title track of her ‘Proud’ album
has gone on to become the soundtrack to a whole host of very special events including London’s successful 2012 Olympic bid, the 60th anniversary of VE Day in Trafalgar Square, the launch of Queen Mary 2, the Tsunami Relief Concert, England’s victory at the Rugby World Cup celebrations, and the official ceremony marking the handover of the Olympic Games from Beijing to London.
Heather appeared in the Big Top at the Isle of Wight Festival earlier this year and speaking of her return to the North Fairlee Farm site for Jack Up The Summer said; “I absolutely love the Isle of Wight and heard so many great things about Jack Up during my recent time here that I just had to make it my next port of call. It’s so important to support the smaller homegrown events and Jack Up The Summer has a longstanding history on the Island which is truly something to be both commended and celebrated as it’s a tough market out there these days.”
With the Friday included in the price of Weekend tickets next year and gates opening even earlier, there’s even more to look forward to! Details of the big opening party which is set to delight 80’s aficionados are to be released soon.
Previously confirmed artists for the weekend include Heaven 17, Big Country, Aswad, From The Jam and The Strangler’s front man Hugh Cornwell.
