The Stranglers’ Hugh Cornwell next for Jack Up the Summer

Hugh is the ‘hit’ man and he’s heading to Jack Up The Summer at North Fairlee Farm on Saturday 10th August! Expect a storming set of all those iconic hits, sung and played by the main man himself and his band.
The Stranglers are widely recognised as one of the most long-lived and internationally popular bands from the original wave of British punk rock and enjoyed massive UK and European success with 10 hit albums and 21 Top Forty singles.

As the man who propelled them to chart success, Hugh Cornwell is universally acknowledged as one of the UK’s finest songwriting talents and accomplished live performers. Organiser’s said; “This man is the heart, the soul, the face and the voice of The Stranglers. In a career spanning four decades he has etched himself into our musical psyche and we couldn’t
be more honoured that he’s taking time out following his Australian and New Zealand tour this year to grace the Jack Up The Summer stage. Hugh will be in excellent company performing alongside Haircut 100’s Nick Heyward, Heaven 17 and Aswad for our 80’s Day.”

Hugh said; “Just strap on your guitar and we’ll play some rock & roll. If you’re not on the Isle of Wight joining in this fabulous Summer party in August, why not? You can’t miss it. This festival is going to crackle with electricity. I like the Island a lot, it’s a great location and has an interesting vibe to it.”

After leaving The Stranglers in 1990, Hugh has continued to compose, record and perform as a solo artist. His latest album ‘Monster’ was released to rave reviews on Sony Music in October of last year. It features 10 tracks written about some of the most remarkable, and indeed infamous, people of the 20th Century, with the album recalling the Stranglers’ famous hit ‘No
More Heroes’ it makes references to the likes of Leon Trotsky, Lenny Bruce, William Shakespeare and Sancho Panza.

Formally Jack Up The 80s, this hugely popular event continues to deliver on its retro promise by celebrating the upbeat, hand-clapping music of yesteryear, centred around party hits and feel-good music from both the 80s and 90s.

With 75% of Early Bird Weekend and Day tickets already sold, a strictly limited number now remain and can be purchased online at jackupthesummer.co.uk as well as over the counter at Island outlets including the County Press office in Newport.

Island visitors can save 20% off of Wightlink and Red Funnel ferry travel when purchasing their festival tickets via the Jack Up The Summer website – jackupthesummer.co.uk
