Arguably Britain’s most successful reggae band, chart-toppers Aswad are the latest group announced to appear at this year’s Jack Up The Summer family friendly throwback festival joining East 17 and Heaven 17.
After two decades on the music scene and with fifteen albums under their belts, ‘The Lions of Ladbroke Grove’ remain one of the country’s best loved reggae acts. Formed in the late seventies, Aswad, along with UB40, quickly became one of the most important reggae artists to ever emerge from the UK. Early hits such as ‘Warrior Charge’ and ‘Three Babylon’ established the band a massive following culminating in number one hit ‘Don’t Turn Around’ in 1988. The band continued their assault on the pop charts with tracks such as ‘Shine’ and ‘Shy Guy’, amongst many more, working with The Wailers, Sting, Vanessa Mae, Janet Kay and Jah Shaka in the process.
The event takes place at its new location, North Fairlee Farm just outside of Newport. Early Bird Weekend and Day tickets go on sale on Monday 28 January and will be available online at jackupthesummer.co.uk as well as over the counter at Island outlets including the County Press office in Newport.
