Predicting the Future: Common People 2017

On Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May, Common People will return to Southampton Common for another weekend of world-class performances and some of the UK’s most exciting up and coming talents. We decided to take a look at 5 of the latter, who we think are destined for great things…

Local lads Cassava have had a pretty big year indeed: selling out The Joiners and The Talking Heads, as well as supporting Milburn at the Engine Rooms. Expect a very busy Uncommon Stage on the Sunday because the four-piece have been building up a very devoted following with their melodic brand of indie-rock. Give their track Martha a listen below – be careful not to bang your head on anything…

The Novatones

Isle of Wight Festival regulars The Novatones are big favourites of ours and it’s great to see one of the hardest-working bands on the scene being given the opportunity to play on the main stage again. Following dates supporting Space, From The Jam and Sex Pissed Dolls, The Novatones will be sure to bring with them their now iconic mod-look and meaty guitar tunes.

Being Isle of Wight-based, we couldn’t miss these guys out. Currently revolutionising the Isle of Wight music scene, Nakamarra are a five-piece indie-electro band who have had their music featured on BBC Introducing and will perform at Common People before appearing at the likes of Rhythmtree, Festiv-All, Ventnor International Festival and the Isle of Wight Festival’s Main Stage.

Beans On Toast

Beans On Toast is a man who has played in just about any sort of venue you can imagine, whether that be Wembley Arena or a pub in Kidderminster. Now, he will bring the protest to the Uncommon Stage at Common People, treating festival-goers to hits from his 8 studio albums.

In April 2016, I discovered the beautiful band that is Blaenavon. A year and a bit on, and the trio have supported Two Door Cinema Club, sold out shows on their headline tour and have been melting people’s brains across the pond. So, where next for Blaenavon? Oh, would you look at that, they’re only playing the Sunday night of Common People! Get in!

Common People 2017 will see headline performances from Pete Tong Presents Ibiza Classics Performed by the Heritage Orchestra and Sean Paul, as well as Tom Odell, Groove Armada (DJ Set), Wild Beasts, Loyle Carner and many more. For the full, current line-up, please see here.
